A careful routine for crypto withdrawals from an exchange
Once a crypto withdrawal is confirmed on the blockchain, nobody can reverse it, not the exchange and not you. That makes the withdrawal screen the most important place to slow down. Addresses are long, networks have similar names and the interface tempts you to confirm quickly. This guide sets out a careful routine for withdrawals from Binance, OKX, Bybit or Bitget covering address management, network selection, memos, fees and the habit that prevents most costly errors: a small test transfer before the real one.
Prepare the destination in advance
Add the addresses you use regularly to the withdrawal whitelist, with clear labels such as my hardware wallet. Adding an address normally triggers extra verification, which also protects you if someone gets into your account. Copy each address directly from the receiving wallet or platform, paste it and compare the first and last several characters. Some malware silently swaps clipboard contents, so this check matters.
Match network and memo
The same token can exist on several networks, and the form asks you to choose one. It must be the network the receiving address expects. If you are unsure, return to the deposit screen of the destination and read the network name again. When the destination requires a memo or tag, enter it exactly, since a deposit without it may arrive at the platform but not in your account.
Read the fee and the summary
The withdrawal form normally shows the network fee and the amount that will arrive. Read both each time, because fees vary by network and over time. Review the final summary before entering verification codes, and never let anyone guide you through a withdrawal by phone or chat. Support staff will not ask you to move funds to a safe address.
Test first, then send the rest
For a new address or network, send a small amount and wait until it arrives. Only then send the remainder. Record the date, network, amount and transaction ID. If a transfer does not arrive, check its status on a block explorer and contact official support from inside the app with those details, never through people who write to you offering recovery.
